Before the night ended, we prefects had to choose the King and Queen of the Night, as well as the teacher who dressed and harmonized with the theme of the night which was “Secret of Garden” (don’t ask, we didn’t come up with the name). Mr Hendrew and Pn Poh were King and Queen because they were the most sporting teachers that night, what with all the singing and their crazy antics! The very best part was that when Mr Bong, our school principal, gave out the prize to Pn Poh, she did a little dance and wiggle and he also danced and wiggle a little on stage in front of everyone!! I bet everyone was shocked to see him do that because he’s usually very rasional, uptight and very strict in school!
After everyone has gone back, Ting Ming, Yen Sia, Jia Seng, Dex, Sam and Teck Siong went for a walk at waterfront. The initial plan was to catch a movie, but Jia Seng changed his mind. He kept asking me to follow them, but my mum didn’t allow me because it was already very late at night. He even went to ask for my mum’s permission! Goodness… Then my mum and some of her friends stayed back for happy hour (karoeke), and I had to wait for them to finish.
It was a really fun night and we were the first ever prefects to attend any teachers function! Yay! We got to witness first hand the teachers let their hair down and go all crazy and nuts! I wasn’t really surprised at all, because my mum has told me before about what they do during their dinner. I’m just glad I got to spend some more time and have fun with my dear prefect friends. I’m looking forward to the next time we get to sit down together and have this much fun and more!

Wow. I can’t believe I just had my very last sports day in my dearly beloved school, SMK Bandar Kuching No.1 on 10-11 May. It’s actually quite late to have our sports day during this month, but this was the only available time as the Jubilee Ground was totally booked. Anyway, since it was my very last sports day, I simply had to go and enjoy myself, even if it meant sacrificing two days of study time and being under the sun for prefect duty.
It was one of the most enjoyable sports day ever! It started off with marching, with the school band in the lead, followed by us prefects, then the uniform bodies i.e. PBSM, St John, Scouts etc., then the sports houses. I think we prefects were quite nervous about it, because we did well in the first half, but individually made errors now and then, including me. It was quite hard to hear Dexter’s and Jia Seng’s command since we were marching behind the school band. So noisy. Haha.

After the whole opening ceremony, we prefects quickly sprung into our sections for duties while the athletes got ready for the first event. I was in charge of time keeping sections, so I got the chance to watch every single race for both days. A few junior prefect candidates were there with me. They were great and I basically had no problems with them. Unfortunately, the juniors were better than the seniors who were also under me for both days. On Thursday I had this senior with me that basically pisses everyone off. She tried to ponteng her duty, and then Ting Ming and I caught her. She’s so dead because I’m going tell Mr Tan about her. Normally I wouldn’t be this “mean”, but since she has been rude to me and some of the other committee members, only showed up for marching practise once, refused to show up for rehearsal which cost us points, didn’t listen to my instructions the day before, it was just too much and we (the whole committee board) are not going to let her get away with this. Grr… I suppose it was just unfortunate for her that she was assigned under me. When you work under me, I expect discipline and proper cooperation. Sheesh…
Anyway, apart from that problem girl, I had loads of fun. Ah-Ng was so sweet to wait for me to go for lunch. Hehe. He was supposed to go with Kang Hong and the rest, but since I asked him to wait for me, he didn’t go with them. Lolz. He ended up on a car ride with me, Suria, Mei Fang and Janet to Hock Lee. Then we met Kang Hong there after we ate. Apparently they went to Crown Towers just to go to the toilet… Haiz… After lunch, we walked back. My gosh it was exhausting! But when you’re with your friends, you enjoy the company so much that you don’t really mind the tiring walk, sort of… Then when we got back, we went on to resume our duties.
Both days were pretty much the same, but they have their own highlights. On Thursday, there was this girl who was exhausted from running one of the events, by the time she reached the finishing line, instead of crossing it like everyone else, she walked parallel to it! Everyone was like, “CROSS THE LINE!! CROSS IT!!” The poor thing was so exhausted she was so blur and she turned walked back, but still parallel to the line. FINALLY, after much shouting and confusion, she FINALLY crossed the line. Haha. Since my station was near the long jump area, I got the chance to watch Jia Seng and the gang jump. Jia Seng is really good, he jumped quite far, but I think Cornelius jumped further. I really feel sorry for Jia Seng because he came so very close to breaking the high jump record, but his butt terkena the pole, so… Poor thing. He was really upset and heartbroken.

Apart from the prefects, PBSM and St John, KPJS and the Interact Club also had their share of work. The second day, I stayed back during the break. I heard the song request and dedications that we handled by the Interact Club. My goodness. The messages were mostly, “TO XXXX, FROM XXXX, msg: I LOVE YOU FOREVER” I heard that so many times, now I know who the latest couples are! Goodness. Lolz.
The last day is obviously the best day ever. After all the events, we had the open event, which is a 4X100 relay and is opened to everyone, including outsiders. The teams included St John, PBSM, the Athletes group, the former students group and the prefects group. The moment the representatives from the Prefects group stepped into the track, I was like, OMG!!!!!! They were Dexter, Magnus, Ing Siong and Sam. Nothing wrong with that, right? What really shocked me was what they were wearing! They didn’t wear a shirt, they wore the afternoon session prefects vest, and their muscles were showing! Haha. I told them they look very “manly”. Apparently, they initially didn’t want to wear any shirt at all! Haha. They ended up getting fourth, which is really good!

However, that was not the event that got everyone excited. The very last event got everyone so worked up, it was utter chaos! It was the first ever TEACHER’S 8X50 relay race! Wow! All the students were so excited to see the teachers run. They even ran together with them (behind the teachers la…). We were all quite shocked to see the teachers act like us. They can really run man! Haha.
Teachers are ACTUALLY running!!!
After that cool event, it was the long expected closing. The uniform bodies and the houses were at the field waiting to hear the results. Marching competition for the uniform bodies fell the St John! Yay… Second was PBSM, and third was the PREFECT BOARD!!!!!!!!! OMG!! We were so happy! All that training for two months had really paid off baby! And the best part is, we made HISTORY!!! This is the first time the prefects didn’t get LAST placing! Haha! Rejoice! Lolz… And I can’t believe we beat the Scouts. When i walked past them, they were all teary and red-eye and sniffling. I guess Jia Seng scolded them or something.
