-TEACHER'S DINNER-

Last Friday was the Teacher’s Dinner at Harbour View Hotel. The members of the prefect committee board were invited along, and we were also involved in the preparation of the dinner. Jia Seng, Dexter, Samuel, Nancy, Cindy, Teck Siong and I, (+ Janet) had our hands tied up because of it. On Thursday, Nancy, Cindy, Janet and I were busy preparing the door gifts for the teachers. The door gifts were a personalised towel, a few pens and pencils, a cute keychain or magnet, a new name card and a lanyard. It took us two days to complete everything, and the worst part was that there were more than 130 gifts to prepare and we were still in the middle of our exams! Then Jia Seng, Dex, Sam and I stayed back on Thursday afternoon to design the brochure for that night. It was a good thing I knew how to use Microsoft Publisher! This is what it looks like:

The brochure design. Its suppose to be folded into three parts. The last column of the 1st pix is the first page.

Jia Seng
even wrote a poem for the teachers. Haha, not bad aye? I know most people won’t believe that he wrote it, but he really did! We felt pretty satisfied about our design, but when we went to photostate in the next day, it looked terrible because the grey and white ink didn’t blend with the pink paper that the teacher wanted to use. Oh well…

Then the night came and the first thing we prefects did was hand out the teacher’s gift at the entrance. It was pretty hectic because some teachers came together at the same time and we had to rummage through 10 plastic bags to look for their gifts. It was a good thing I suggested earlier on that we made a list of names to clip on the outside of the plastic bags to make it easier to search for the teacher’s gift bag. Before the dinner started, the nine of us sat at the table that is fully reserved for prefects while the other four sat with the teachers at the back. The night started off just like any other ordinary dinner, but when Pn Poh and Pn Sony started “karoeke-ing”, all the other teachers went on a hype! Mr Tan went up there and started dancing, followed by Pn Alicia, Mr Lim and so on! It was so funny to see them act like that and Ning Jian commented that Mr Tan danced like Mr Bean!

Some time after that, I went to the back to discuss something with the other prefects, and when I turned around, I found my mum and Mr Lim dancing in the middle of the room! I was like OMG… Haha… Then Mr Cosmos sang, boy can he sing! He has a really great voice! Oh ya, Pn Sony has a really great voice too! A new side of the teachers was discovered that night!

Then came the first game. Each table was given a pack of straws and everyone at the table had to cooperate to build or make something out of the straws. We prefects went to Mr Cosmos’ table to see what our Physics teacher came up with. But all he made was an umbrella! Haha. Some teachers made houses and boats. They even made the KL Twin Tower! You’d think that the teachers, who are so dead serious in school, would think that this game was silly and that they wouldn’t even bother. But it was the exact opposite and they really had fun doing really silly things they wouldn’t normally do in school on a daily basis.

After some singing and lucky draws, the second game was played. I think it was by far the most hectic and funniest game played by teachers that night! It’s called Mummy Return, where the teachers were given toilet paper and they had to dress up their unfortunate friend with the given item. Pn Alicia was dressed in a Hawaiian Hula outfit, Miss Fu became the Statue of Liberty, but the best was Mr Mohd Allin (one of the school grounds man). He looked like a real mummy, and he even had a Pharaoh’s necklace made out of the loo roll tube around his neck! Because he was wrapped up so tight, he had to HOP all the way up to stage. To spice things up, he stretched out his arms while hoping! He looked like a Chinese mo-kui (ghost)! Then Pn Poh saw him hoping up to stage she also joined in and started hoping with him!! Honestly, we prefects got to see a new side of the teachers and they didn’t care that we students were there, they still went all out and had a blast, which was super fun for us to watch!

Clockwise: The Statue of Liberty! The Mummy Allin, and the other mummies...

Everything else went on as planned and somewhere along the line I managed to take some pictures with my darling friends.

Sam (outside gals toilet!!) and Dex

Suria and Teck Siong

Jia Seng (he had fun seeing how short i am) and Sze Wei

Before the night ended, we prefects had to choose the King and Queen of the Night, as well as the teacher who dressed and harmonized with the theme of the night which was “Secret of Garden” (don’t ask, we didn’t come up with the name). Mr Hendrew and Pn Poh were King and Queen because they were the most sporting teachers that night, what with all the singing and their crazy antics! The very best part was that when Mr Bong, our school principal, gave out the prize to Pn Poh, she did a little dance and wiggle and he also danced and wiggle a little on stage in front of everyone!! I bet everyone was shocked to see him do that because he’s usually very rasional, uptight and very strict in school!

After everyone has gone back, Ting Ming, Yen Sia, Jia Seng, Dex, Sam and Teck Siong went for a walk at waterfront. The initial plan was to catch a movie, but Jia Seng changed his mind. He kept asking me to follow them, but my mum didn’t allow me because it was already very late at night. He even went to ask for my mum’s permission! Goodness… Then my mum and some of her friends stayed back for happy hour (karoeke), and I had to wait for them to finish.

It was a really fun night and we were the first ever prefects to attend any teachers function! Yay! We got to witness first hand the teachers let their hair down and go all crazy and nuts! I wasn’t really surprised at all, because my mum has told me before about what they do during their dinner. I’m just glad I got to spend some more time and have fun with my dear prefect friends. I’m looking forward to the next time we get to sit down together and have this much fun and more!

-EXAMS OVER!!-

OMG I can’t believe that exams are finally O-V-E-R. I had to sit for more than 20 papers in 12 days. That was not fun at all.

My class had to move to the 6A1 class because some idiot decided that it was FUN to set the school on fire. They first attacked the worker’s shed and the St John room on the 12th, right after sports day. I really pity the St John people because 30 years worth of records and trophies are now ashes on the ground. At first I thought that someone was not happy with the fact that St John won first place in the marching competition in Sports Day, but the second fire happened early Monday morning. They burnt Block C, MY block where MY classroom is. The very moment I set foot in school, I quickly rushed off to see the block. The upper part of the two-storey block was totally gone. A total of 6 classes, but fortunately the fire didn’t get to the Biology, Chemistry and Physics lab, otherwise there would have been a cosmic explosion (due to the flammable and reactive chemicals and gases in the Chemistry lab) and there would have been serious casualty because that Block is near resident houses. When I glanced up my classroom from behind the Firemen’s yellow tape, I could still see fire burning on top of the roof. Luckily, my mum and the other higher authority staff had a brief meeting and decided on what to do. So exams still had to go on despite all the commotion.

The person who did it is really stupid to have set the second fire, because now he turned it into a big-scale investigation. Hopefully the police are able to apprehend that idiot, but I have absolutely no faith in Malaysian justice system, and you should know why. That whole incident really made headlines, even the former Minister of something came to pay the school a visit. Sure enough it was major gossip among the students. Everyone would be joking and playfully throw accusations at everyone, nothing serious though. Jarell even joked saying, “Wah, when the firemen rush inside the Biology lab to put out the fire, later they see the skeletons and they would panic and go “Who die?? Who die??” but after investigating they’d realize that its just fake bones.” Lolz….

Anyway, the heat eventually died down (but not enough to disappear) and everyone focused their attention towards something else, exams. Wow, this semester exams are really hard. Even Maggie said, “Nevermind la, just die this paper also. Afterall, we died in the other papers, so die one more nevermind also…” Maybe its because it’s the first time we are sitting for full paper and we’re not used to it yet. As usual, there was a lot of communication going on in my class during exams. You know what I mean. I also did some communication of my own! But don’t fret, I didn’t cheat. I mostly whisper to my friends and together we’d express how much we DON’T know how to do the paper. Even Joshua was doing weird expressions and gesture to himself just because he didn’t know how to answer the BM paper. It was great entertainment! If I feel bored and frustrated at answering the questions, I’d look up and around and wait for someone to look back at me. That’s when the communication starts:
SHEEP: (whisper) Ah-Ng, you know how to do?
AH-NG: (sigh) No…
SHEEP: (sigh) Me too…
AH-NG: Die lor…

Lolz… I mostly communicated with Ah-Ng, Nancy, CY, Yen Hua and Joshua. CY and Yen Hua were nice enough to explain to me the questions that I was not sure of. I’m so glad I sat next to them. So that was how it was throughout the 12 days of exams. My favourite conversation was during Physics paper 2. Thank goodness during the last half-hour of the exam, it was Physics period, so Mr Cosmos came into my class. That’s when everyone started asking him questions. Of course he helped us! Lolz… I asked him so many questions till I had a rough idea of how to answer the paper. I wasn’t the only who did that. Then Mr Cosmos declared something to us:
MR COSMOS: Ai si ah… The paper very hard ah. I tried to do it this morning.
VERY hard ah… I don’t even know the answer.
I just see the questions look very nice in the reference book, so I put it lor…
SHEEP: *peng*

Haha, yup. That’s my Physics teacher for you. The man is a genius, but he’s very blur most of the time. He didn’t even realize that there was a mistake in one of the essay questions until the last 20 minutes of exam. Then there was one question that I had no clue as to what it meant. So I turned to Joshua and asked him:
SHEEP: Joshua, what does this question mean ah?
JOSHUA: I don’t know. But I know that the answer is “high refractive index”.
SHEEP: *shocked* Ha? Seriously?
JOSHUA: Ya, the teacher told me just now.
SHEEP: *swt* Haha

Yes, Physics paper was by far the most fun paper during exams. Not forgetting Sejarah. This time I didn’t even go through chapter by chapter. That’s because the teacher told us in full detail about what questions are coming out in the structure and essay part. She also told us that past year questions from year 2004-2005 will be out in the objective section. So we all took the short cut and studied what she told us, we also went to photostate the past year questions and practically memorize the answers!

Well, since exams are over, the holiday has just started. But I will be haunted till the day I get my papers back, because I know I didn’t do very well. Got study, don’t know how to do. Don’t study, also don’t know how to do. Haiz. I got this cool equation from Dexter:

Study = No fail …(1)
No Study = Fail …(2)
(1)+(2):
Study + No Study = No Fail + Fail
Factorise it:
Study(1+No) = Fail(1+No)
Therefore:
Study = Fail
No Study = No Fail
So, study for what???
Lolz… My friends nonsense number 1 one… Anyway, will be attending Teacher’s Dinner tonight, so I have to go prepare now. Will post about it after the weekend.

-MY VERY LAST SPORTS DAY-

The flag carriers (left to right) Yen Hua (Asst Head Prefect), Teck Siong (Head Prefect) and Ting Ming (Asst Head Prefect)

Wow. I can’t believe I just had my very last sports day in my dearly beloved school, SMK Bandar Kuching No.1 on 10-11 May. It’s actually quite late to have our sports day during this month, but this was the only available time as the Jubilee Ground was totally booked. Anyway, since it was my very last sports day, I simply had to go and enjoy myself, even if it meant sacrificing two days of study time and being under the sun for prefect duty.

It was one of the most enjoyable sports day ever! It started off with marching, with the school band in the lead, followed by us prefects, then the uniform bodies i.e. PBSM, St John, Scouts etc., then the sports houses. I think we prefects were quite nervous about it, because we did well in the first half, but individually made errors now and then, including me. It was quite hard to hear Dexter’s and Jia Seng’s command since we were marching behind the school band. So noisy. Haha.

Jia Seng reciting the Athletes Oath

After the whole opening ceremony, we prefects quickly sprung into our sections for duties while the athletes got ready for the first event. I was in charge of time keeping sections, so I got the chance to watch every single race for both days. A few junior prefect candidates were there with me. They were great and I basically had no problems with them. Unfortunately, the juniors were better than the seniors who were also under me for both days. On Thursday I had this senior with me that basically pisses everyone off. She tried to ponteng her duty, and then Ting Ming and I caught her. She’s so dead because I’m going tell Mr Tan about her. Normally I wouldn’t be this “mean”, but since she has been rude to me and some of the other committee members, only showed up for marching practise once, refused to show up for rehearsal which cost us points, didn’t listen to my instructions the day before, it was just too much and we (the whole committee board) are not going to let her get away with this. Grr… I suppose it was just unfortunate for her that she was assigned under me. When you work under me, I expect discipline and proper cooperation. Sheesh…

Anyway, apart from that problem girl, I had loads of fun. Ah-Ng was so sweet to wait for me to go for lunch. Hehe. He was supposed to go with Kang Hong and the rest, but since I asked him to wait for me, he didn’t go with them. Lolz. He ended up on a car ride with me, Suria, Mei Fang and Janet to Hock Lee. Then we met Kang Hong there after we ate. Apparently they went to Crown Towers just to go to the toilet… Haiz… After lunch, we walked back. My gosh it was exhausting! But when you’re with your friends, you enjoy the company so much that you don’t really mind the tiring walk, sort of… Then when we got back, we went on to resume our duties.

Both days were pretty much the same, but they have their own highlights. On Thursday, there was this girl who was exhausted from running one of the events, by the time she reached the finishing line, instead of crossing it like everyone else, she walked parallel to it! Everyone was like, “CROSS THE LINE!! CROSS IT!!” The poor thing was so exhausted she was so blur and she turned walked back, but still parallel to the line. FINALLY, after much shouting and confusion, she FINALLY crossed the line. Haha. Since my station was near the long jump area, I got the chance to watch Jia Seng and the gang jump. Jia Seng is really good, he jumped quite far, but I think Cornelius jumped further. I really feel sorry for Jia Seng because he came so very close to breaking the high jump record, but his butt terkena the pole, so… Poor thing. He was really upset and heartbroken.

Jia Seng and his long jump (left), and his attempt to break the high jump record (right)

Apart from the prefects, PBSM and St John, KPJS and the Interact Club also had their share of work. The second day, I stayed back during the break. I heard the song request and dedications that we handled by the Interact Club. My goodness. The messages were mostly, “TO XXXX, FROM XXXX, msg: I LOVE YOU FOREVER” I heard that so many times, now I know who the latest couples are! Goodness. Lolz.

The last day is obviously the best day ever. After all the events, we had the open event, which is a 4X100 relay and is opened to everyone, including outsiders. The teams included St John, PBSM, the Athletes group, the former students group and the prefects group. The moment the representatives from the Prefects group stepped into the track, I was like, OMG!!!!!! They were Dexter, Magnus, Ing Siong and Sam. Nothing wrong with that, right? What really shocked me was what they were wearing! They didn’t wear a shirt, they wore the afternoon session prefects vest, and their muscles were showing! Haha. I told them they look very “manly”. Apparently, they initially didn’t want to wear any shirt at all! Haha. They ended up getting fourth, which is really good!

The school athletes and my mum. (left to right) Sam, Cornelius, Jia Seng, Sir Pol, Jing Nam and Andy.

However, that was not the event that got everyone excited. The very last event got everyone so worked up, it was utter chaos! It was the first ever TEACHER’S 8X50 relay race! Wow! All the students were so excited to see the teachers run. They even ran together with them (behind the teachers la…). We were all quite shocked to see the teachers act like us. They can really run man! Haha.

Teachers are ACTUALLY running!!!

After that cool event, it was the long expected closing. The uniform bodies and the houses were at the field waiting to hear the results. Marching competition for the uniform bodies fell the St John! Yay… Second was PBSM, and third was the PREFECT BOARD!!!!!!!!! OMG!! We were so happy! All that training for two months had really paid off baby! And the best part is, we made HISTORY!!! This is the first time the prefects didn’t get LAST placing! Haha! Rejoice! Lolz… And I can’t believe we beat the Scouts. When i walked past them, they were all teary and red-eye and sniffling. I guess Jia Seng scolded them or something.

My dear prefect-family...

Top: Dex taking our 3rd place price
Bottom: Teck Siong taking 6th place price for KPJS
My very last sports day ended with a blast! I had so much fun, and even though I won’t be a student of this school next year, I’m still going to go back to watch Sports Day again! Hehe…

-SEPI-
(sebuah sajak BM)

Dalam kesunyian,
Wajahmu asyik terbayang,
Suara kasihmu kedengaran,
Membawaku ke kenangan lepas.

Kau pegang tapak tanganku,
Mengharungi onak duri
Kesusahanku,
Tempat mengaduku
Yang ku berpaling.

Kini kita dipisahkan,
Jarak jauh yang di antara,
Ku kehilangan payungku,
Hujan turun lebat.

Ku sembunyi perasaan sebenarku,
Inginku elak gaduh,
Yang lelahkan
Yang menyakitkan.

Perasaan rindu dan sepi,
Menemaniku pada larut malam,
Teringin dengar khabarmu,
Hajatku sila sampaikan.

Tetapi ku lelah menunggu,
Lelah menunggu janji-janjimu,
Yang tak kan kau tunaikan,
Kau memberi alasan
Tindakan dan kata-katamu,
Lalu hancurkan hatiku.

Lalu ku duduk sini,
Dalam gelap kesepian,
Perasaan berbaur,
Menunggu cerah pagi
Yang tidak kesampaian.
